A fixed evening ritual helps young (and old) to relax after a long day at daycare or school. In this blog we would like to give you some tips on how to organize your evening ritual and ... how to make it fun!
Structure creates calm
Try every evening - as far as possible - to follow more or less the same pattern, this provides peace of mind and children know exactly what to expect. Make a simple schedule with some cool icons, or use the one we made with our Yumi Yay friends (see below) ... You're welcome!
Magic trick: a bath!
Did you know ... a warm bath(s), one to two hours before bedtime, makes you fall asleep faster and sleep deeper? All the more reason to include a (short) bath in your evening ritual! Are your kids that 'water-minded'? Try to make the bath time (more) fun with bath toys such as ... the silicone animal covers of our Yumi Yay night lights! That way Otti, Finn, Tika and Billy are there throughout the whole evening ritual ... from bath time to bed time!
Completely splashed out?
Then it's pajama time! It's best to choose pajamas in breathable, thermo-regulating fabric such as cotton. Then there is one more thing that has to be done ... Brushing your teeth! Tip: use a funny, child-friendly Timer-App, so you can be sure they brush long enough!
Limited screen time
It is recommended to avoid screen activity (such as TV, tablet, smartphone ...) for the last hour before bedtime. This prevents the production of melatonin, the substance that makes you sleepy. It's better to let the kids 'monkey around' (Tika-style!) by having some playtime, or ... go for a (pre)reading moment with a nice book! By the way, did you know that ... all our Yumi Yay-friends have their own booklet, with a story that is closely related to the world of children?
Time for bed!
And then it is time for bed! But your kids are afraid of the dark? Or do they (sometimes) visit the toilet at night? Then our wireless night lights are the ideal companion to take along, and the different silicone animal covers allow the child to choose which Yumi Yay friend to watch over him or her that night!
